Session 6 - Chasing Totality! April 8th was truly a great day in Waco, Texas! We had a small crew come together during our Monday photography class to view and photograph the total solar eclipse, and it did not disappoint! Despite the cloudy weather it was an amazing experience. Just knowing that this unique event was coming straight to us was mind-blowing. Videos Here's a quick clip from our time chasing the sun! Each item has a link and a quick description. Cameras Nikon D7500 - amzn.to/3TWNEtp The D7500 is my current go-to DSLR for sports portraits and other projects outside the studio. It has a fold-out LCD display, but it's not fully articulated (can't turn every direction). Canon 70D - amzn.to/3Jh5jaz The 70D is a great DSLR camera to learn on, with a fully articulated touch-screen LCD display, solid construction and the ability to shoot 7 frames per second and record 1080P HD videos. It's an older camera, so finding it new might be difficult and its specs could be considered a little below standard... especially on the video side. Here is a link to the newest version, which is the 90D (which has been updated to shoot 10 frames per second and record 4k video) - amzn.to/3vSu75o Lenses Nikon AF-S VRII 70-200mm f/2.8 - amzn.to/4aX69Fd This is a great go-to high-end telephoto lens for anyone with a Nikon DSLR camera! Quality build, large aperture and fast autofocus... what else could you ask for?! Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 - amzn.to/49CfFfy This guy is more of a niche DSLR lens. With a fixed focal length of 300mm it's only good for far-off photos (think wildlife or sports photography... or a solar eclipse!!!). It's not lacking in quality; it's just not as versatile as the 70-200mm. Canon EF 300mm f/4 - The EF 300mm f/4 similar to the Nikon version, but it's a pretty old lens. Finding it new may be a challenge, but you could probably find a good deal on eBay. Otherwise, I would go for the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 super-zoom telephoto at amzn.to/3Q1mj8m. This is a much more versatile option. Tripods Neewer 72 inch Aluminum Tripod with Ball Head - amzn.to/3UhSdjs This Neewer tripod has been my go-to for almost five years. I have two of them and they're still in great shape. A ball head may have its pros and cons, but being able to quickly adjust a steep camera angle definitely made it the way to go for solar eclipse photography!
